2019 Advent Calendar – December 13: Erg Iguidi, Algeria

For December 16, let’s go and explore the Danube Delta in Romania, at the border with Ukraine. It is the best preserved delta in whole Europe! This place is a true natural paradise of great beauty given by Nature. The image shows a mix of beautiful colours ranging from green to blue and turquoise that contrast with the very graphic agricultural patterns.

The Danube Delta is the least inhabited region of temperate Europe. About 20,000 people live there, mainly from fishing activities. This protected environment is home to more than 300 species of birds and 45 species of freshwater fish.

In 1991, the Romanian part of the Danube Delta became part of the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites.

This is the Black Sea on the eastern side of the image. Did you know? The International Black Sea Day is celebrated every year on October 31.
