2019 Advent Calendar – December 6: Richat Structure, Mauritania
Be careful, you are being watched!!! On this day of December 6th, we take you to Africa to warm up, with this magnificent satellite image in incredible colors of the “Richat structure”, better known as the “Eye of Africa”.
What is that « Eye »? It is a circular geological structure and not a meteorite crater as it has long been believed. It is located in the vast Sahara desert, more precisely in Mauritania near the city of Ouadane. The Richat’s structure was revealed to its full extent in 1965 during an American space mission.
The Eye of Africa shows what the Earth can offer, a true work of art composed of magnificent and surprising colors in the heart of the world’s largest desert.
